A:

There are numerous kinds of internships available to finance students. Generally, there are five core areas of finance you should look into when looking to land that summer internship: banks, life insurers, investment companies, securities firms and credit rating agencies. Look for an internship that is focused in an area of finance you'd like to specialize in or an area you just want to experience.

The most sought-after internships are typically with securities firms or investment firms for reasons such as prestige and future salary potential. These internships normally go to students interested in areas such as investment banking, securities brokerage, financial advising and securities trading. Having an internship at one of the bulge bracket firms on your resume can be a significant boost to your credentials that will help you in your future job searches.
