Series 6 - Exam Details
1.1 - Introduction
In order to obtain the Series 6 license, candidates must pass the Investment Company/Variable Contracts Products Limited Representative (Series 6) exam. The Series 6 exam is administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) (previously the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD)) and provides an individual with the qualifications necessary in order to transact mutual funds, variable annuities, and insurance premiums.

The Series 6 exam covers topics on mutual funds, variable annuities, securities and tax regulations, retirement plans, and insurance products.

Here is some more useful information:

Time Limit 2 hours and 15 minutes. 
Questions 105 multiple choice questions: 100 scored and 5 pre-test questions that do not count because FINRA is just test-driving them to see if they should be scored in future exams.
Passing Score 70%

Prerequisites  You must be sponsored by a financial company who is a member of FINRA, or a Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO).
