Exam Details - Introduction
In order to obtain the Series 6 license, candidates must pass the Investment Company/Variable Contracts Products Limited Representative (Series 6) exam. The Series 6 exam is administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) (previously the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD)) and provides an individual with the qualifications necessary to transact business in open end mutual funds, variable annuities and variable insurance policies A state insurance license is required in most states in addition to the series 6 to transact business in variable contracts..
The Series 6 exam covers topics on mutual funds, variable annuities, securities and tax regulations, retirement plans, and insurance products.
