FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The euro reversed earlier gains during the American session and closed Monday virtually unchanged as investors remain fixated on unresolved US budget negotiations. US President Obama had said a few weeks ago that an agreement could be reached before Christmas, but it wasn't.

EURUSD peaked at 1.3234 during the European session but then came under pressure during the NY trade and gave up all its earnings. The pair closed the Monday shortened session at 1.3176, just 4 pips below its opening price.

Richard Lee, analyst at FXstreet.com notes that the current fundamental situation will place emphasis on the 1.3300 round figure barrier in EURUSD. "A break above the level would bolster an advance on the 1.3484 February 29th session high".

On Tuesday markets will remain closed for Christmas, resuming trading on Wednesday in the US and Thursday in Europe.
