FXstreet.com (Edinburgh) - Equities in the US are extending its downside momentum on Friday, dragging the Dow below the 16,000 pts amidst a generalized exodus from riskier assets. The greenback, measured by the DXY, is recovering part of yesterday’s deep pullback and trading around 80.40. At the moment, DowJones is down 1.23% followed by the S&P500, 1.34% and the Nasdaq, 1.57%.

Markets in Euroland sharply retreated against the backdrop of increasing concerns in the EM space. The Spanish benchmark lost 3.64%, seconded by the CAC40, 2.79% and the DAX, 2.48%. The shared currency remains sidelined around 1.3680 after posting fresh 3-week highs around 1.3740 during the morning in Europe.

Opposite trends in the commodities’ space, as the barrel of WTI is losing 0.59% at $96.75 while the ounce troy of gold is up 0.13% at $1,264.
