The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) indicates that if your first language is not English, you may request a time extension for your exam. In some cases, you may also be able to write a version of the exam that is in your first language.
Proof that English is not your first language must be provided once you arrive at your exam location. This proof must be an original letter (photocopies/faxes are unacceptable) consisting of the following details:



  • Your name.
  • A statement that English is your second language.
  • Be printed on your sponsoring firm's or employer's letterhead.
  • Date of the exam.
  • Client ID.
  • Series ID.
  • Your supervisor or manager's original signature.
