Jobs Of The Future

If you're not happy with the current state of the job market, perhaps the future will be more to your liking. As technology evolves, new jobs will develop while others become extinct. Here are a few of the jobs that are forecasted to be in large demand in the future.

 

Nanotechnology

Imagine building a machine the size of a single molecule. What kind of applications would it have? Researchers in the field of nanotechnology are exploring that question as they look at applications for things like solving medical issues to building defense. It's estimated that by 2015, two million workers will be needed for this field. That number is rapidly growing as nanotechnology moves beyond its infancy.

Space Workers

Although NASA doesn't have a lot of need for astronauts right now, the need for astronauts and others in the space industry is likely to grow in coming years. As private companies like SpaceX and Virgin Galactic develop affordable ways to send people to space, astronauts and pilots able to operate these vehicles, as well as workers to maintain the equipment, will be in demand.

Wind Power Maintenance

Wind power has grown rapidly. There is enough wind energy to provide power for approximately 9.7 million homes. As the push for green energy continues, the Bureau of Labor Statistics believes that jobs throughout the supply chain - including manufacturing, installation and maintenance of wind turbines - will continue to increase.

Genetic Counselors

Genetic testing may be the crystal ball of medicine. By looking at our genes, scientists can tell us about medical conditions that we are susceptible to. Genetic counselors are the people who review tests results with patients and help them to find the necessary care or make decisions about future medical treatment. As these tests continue to evolve and the price comes down, more counselors will be needed.

Vertical Farmer

The population is getting larger while farmland continues to get scarcer, yet the world needs more food. In urban areas, the unused space of buildings is being transformed into farms creating a new source of food and revenue for entrepreneurs. As the population grows and the amount of farmland shrinks, more vertical farms will be needed.

Scientific advances are changing our lives for the better. They are also changing the way we work. There are many new career opportunities on the horizon for current and future generations. While many jobs are becoming obsolete, these jobs are the wave of the future. If you have an interest in science and technology, these might be worthwhile career paths for you - you could even end up becoming an innovator in one of these fields.
