Utility Solutions
ESCO Technologies (NYSE:ESE), a provider of specialty solutions for utilities, was able to increase revenue nearly 37% for the three months ending June 30 over the same period a year ago. The upswing in revenue was attributed to the acquisition of Doble, a world leader in diagnostic testing for electric utilities, at the end of last year. ESCO has returned about 15% to investors since the beginning of the year.

Broadband Technology
PMC-Sierra (Nasdaq:PMCS), a leading provider of broadband access equipment, storage devices and semiconductors, managed to increase revenue nearly 34% for the three months ending June 29. Sales of fiber-to-the-home products in Asia were the major drivers for its surge in revenue. Fiber-to-the-home products have the capacity to carry triple play services like voice, data and IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). PMC-Sierra has increased approximately 34.3% since the beginning of the year.

Agricultural Supplier
Chemical company DuPont's (NYSE:DD) revenue increased 12% during the second quarter due to an increase in demand for its Agricultural & Nutrition products. Demand was led by the U.S. and emerging markets including Eastern Europe, Brazil, China and India. Sales in North America and Latin America were driven by the demand for soy protein products while sales of herbicides led in Europe. Although rising commodity prices did drive up its costs of goods sold, DuPont was able to compensate by charging customers higher sales prices. DuPont is up about 3.3% year to date, but that is still approximately 19% over the return for the S&P 500 index.
