Company Performance: Revenue fell year-over-year in the second quarter to end a three-quarter growth streak. It fell 2.5% in the second quarter after rising 13.5%in the first quarter, 11.4% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year and 29.7% in the third quarter of the last fiscal year.

MPC's P/E ratio of 7.9 falls below the industry average of 19.22. A low P/E might arise due to substantial inherent risk of the firm and its operations, poor return on equity, or improper valuation of the market. A simple P/E ratio can reveal the stock's real market value and show how the valuation compares to its industry group or a benchmark like the S&P 500 Index. A high P/E ratio indicates a stock that is expensive, while a low P/E ratio indicates a stock that is cheap. SEE: How To Use The P/E Ratio And PEG To Tell The Future Of A Stock

The stock price has increased from $47.30 on July 31, 2012 to $55.61 over the past quarter. Marathon's best recent streak was when its price gained $5.29 per share between September 5, 2012 and September 14, 2012.
