Ayer was born in 1947 in India and immigrated to the United States in 1969 to attend Drexel University, where he earned a master's degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering. He joined The Hartford in 1973, the same year he obtained his Ph.D, and worked there for his entire career, becoming president and CEO in 1997 and retiring in 2009. |
