Firm:

Dynamic Wealth Solutions LLC

Job Title:

Chief Compliance Officer & Partner

Biography:

Tim Hooker is the Chief Compliance Officer and Partner at Dynamic Wealth Solutions LLC, a registered investment advisor that provides fee-only wealth management services for families and business owners. Tim and his team's approach to investing is founded on decades of academic research, extensive empirical data and leading portfolio management theories. The resulting process avoids speculative stock picking, market timing and forecasting, efforts which have been shown to hinder returns. Therefore, their process delivers measurable economic and intangible benefits that help their clients navigate complex markets. Tim's strategies can be implemented for conservative, moderate and aggressive investors. Tim helps his clients find the best financial solutions for their goals and develop an investment strategy personalized for them.

Many years ago, Tim Hooker and his colleague Brian Smith were working together at a large traditional wirehouse, a firm with a household name and a reputation trusted by many people. But what they found startled them. People were taking advantage of clients’ ignorance to charge hefty fees that they couldn’t even see. Brokers and Advisors were putting their clients into expensive, overburdened and underperforming mutual funds. They saw people entrusted with family’s savings pumping assets into mutual funds with poor track records, bad management, and large fees, all to collect a sales charge paid to them by the mutual fund company itself, using clients’ money. Instead of letting their passion fade and acquiescing to “business as usual”, they took a leap. They left their comfortable, established firm and set out to create their own, using what they had learned to make the industry better.

Tim and his colleagues, Brian and Kiernan Easton, made it clear to themselves and others that the client would ALWAYS come first. They hadn’t split off from the major firms to rip off families differently, they wanted to create a place they could trust to invest for their families and friends, and where other families and friends could trust as well. All three became fiduciaries, advisors legally obligated to put their client’s needs above their own. They used ETF’s (Exchange Trade Funds) to replicate the diversification of Mutual Funds, without the exorbitant and nonsensical fees. They set out to meet new clients, showing them how they could improve their strategies. The story of Dynamic Wealth Solutions continues, but it will always have at its core one principle: Doing what is right for the client.

If I am an active day trader as my sole income, at what point does it become advantageous for me to create an LLC or similar for the added tax benefits?
100% of people found this answer helpful

Starting a business entity is a big decision that will have added regulatory costs and paperwork to manage the operations properly. Since your only trading, it seems like your set up is sufficient for now. The tax filing for the entity will also create more work, increased costs and recordkeeping. If you're looking to add partners or scale your business then forming an entity makes sense but if you're happy with the current set up and day trading with success then why make things more complex with an entity?
