Will closing a checking account impact my credit score?
Over ten years ago, I set up an additional checking account for my investments only. I use this account for transferring investment money to several financial and fund accounts and keep it funded by having a certain amount of money taken out of my paycheck. I kept this checking account separate from my family checking account. As I approach retirement next year, I will not be feeding this investment account with my paycheck. Will closing this checking account impact my credit score?
Closing a checking accoutn will not impact your credit score. Opening an account or adding overdraft protection might impact your credit card. You can always double check www.myfico.com for factors in creating your credit score. I'm fairly certain that opening and closing accounts does not factor at all into the formula. More importantly (to FICO) is opening and closing of credit cards, lines of credit, and other loans.
