Third-Party Ratings

BCS Insurance Company has an A (Excellent) AM Best rating, and Jefferson Insurance Company has an A+ (Superior) rating.
Policies Available
Allianz Travel breaks down its policies into three categories: single-trip, annual/multi-trip, and rental car insurance. If you plan on living abroad for an extended stay, consider health insurance for expats in addition to a long-term travel insurance policy or instead of one.
Single Trip
An Allianz Travel single trip plan only lasts for one trip. The cost depends on where you’re going, the length of the trip, your age, and your trip cost. There are also different plan options based on how much coverage you want.
- OneTrip Premier: If you want the most protection, OneTrip Premier, Allianz’s top-tier plan, is a good choice. It covers up to $75,000 for emergency medical, $1 million for emergency medical transportation, $2,000 for lost or damaged baggage, $600 for baggage delay, $200,000 for trip cancellation, and $300,000 for trip interruption. It’s the only Allianz Travel plan which covers cancellation due to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) hurricane warning. Additionally, the plan covers trips up to 366 days long.
- OneTrip Prime: Allianz Travel’s most popular plan, it includes cancellation coverage up to $100,000, emergency medical up to $50,000 per traveler, lost baggage up to $1,000 per traveler, and expenses from trip delays $200 per day, up to $800 total.
- OneTrip Basic: This plan covers the same categories as OneTrip Prime, but with lower coverage limits: $10,000 for cancellation, $10,000 for emergency medical, and $500 for lost baggage. It’s also missing certain travel perks, like access to Allianz Travel’s concierge service.
- OneTrip Emergency Medical: With this plan, you are only covered for issues that happen during a trip, like medical emergencies and lost luggage. However, the plan does not provide trip interruption and cancellation coverage.
- OneTrip Cancellation Plus: This minimal plan only covers the cost of a canceled or interrupted trip, for eligible reasons. It doesn’t pay for medical bills or lost luggage during your trip.
For a 30-year-old to take an eight-day trip to Mexico from New York worth $5,000 and booked around six weeks in advance, OneTrip coverage ranged from $151 (Basic) to $231 (Premier).
Annual/Multi-Trip
These Allianz Travel insurance plans cover all your trips for one year. Each trip can last no more than 45 days (except for Premier which covers trips up to 90 days). What’s covered and coverage limits depend on the plan you choose.
- AllTrips Premier: Allianz Travel’s most high-end multi-trip plan, it covers trips lasting up to 90 days, versus 45 days on all other multi-trip plans. It expands the coverage limits you get in lower-tier plans. For example, you get up to $15,000 in trip cancellation coverage, and up to $50,000 in emergency medical. The plan also covers everyone in your household, even if they are traveling separately from you.
- AllTrips Executive: This plan provides more coverage than AllTrips Prime. For example, trip cancellation covers up to $10,000 and emergency medical care covers up to $50,000. This plan also reimburses airline ticket change fees up to $500 per year.
- AllTrips Prime: The standard multi-trip travel insurance plan covers trip cancellation up to $3,000 per year, emergency medical up to $20,000 per trip, and lost baggage up to $1,000.
- AllTrips Basic: This is a lower-cost plan that doesn’t include trip interruption or cancellation, but covers things like medical emergencies (up to $20,000), emergency medical transportation (up to $100,000), and lost bags while traveling.
For a 30-year-old taking a trip of up to 45 days from New York, prices ranged from $125 (Basic) to $459 (Executive).
Rental Car
Allianz Travel’s rental car policies cost $11 per day and cover up to $50,000 of damage to a rental car. The plan also includes up to $1,000 in coverage for your lost bags. You can buy rental car insurance as a standalone plan or as an optional add-on to the other Allianz travel insurance plans.
If you have a travel credit card, it may already provide some travel and rental car insurance coverage for purchases made on the card.
Customer Service
Allianz Travel offers customer service primarily by phone. You can call its hotline 24/7 with questions and for assistance with emergencies while traveling. You can also submit questions through an online form.
If you have an Allianz Travel policy, the Allianz Travel website lets you access policy details and start a claim. Allianz Travel also provides a mobile app called TravelSmart that you can use to manage your policy, file claims, and access 24/7 assistance. The app provides information that could be useful for your trip, such as:
- Updates on flight delays
- Local emergency numbers
- A list of pre-screened medical facilities
- Translation for medical terms in 18 languages

Methodology
We evaluated more than 30 different travel insurance companies and plans. Major areas of focus included coverage options, claim and policy limits, what’s covered, and typical insurance policy costs.
The biggest focus was on insurance coverage limits and what each policy covers. Cost is important, but a difference of $20 for much better coverage is often negligible. The most important features examined in this review are the ones that make your policy valuable and easy to use if you ever need it.
