Can You Use Your Walmart Credit Card at Sam's Club?

The Walmart credit card is a popular, co-branded, retailer credit card option. Like other retailer cards, it comes with some great store brand benefits and rewards that can be slightly tedious to understand. One of the great benefits of the card is that it can be used at Sam’s Club.

The Walmart Credit Card

Walmart offers its credit card in partnership with Capital One and MasterCard. Capital One is the issuer and MasterCard is the processor. Like the Gap brand, one of the Walmart credit card’s great benefits is that it can be used at Walmart brands.

First, it is important to understand which Walmart credit card you are approved for, which will affect its usage overall. Walmart and Capital One offer both the Walmart MasterCard and the Walmart Rewards Card. Approval for the card depends on the borrower’s credit profile. High-quality borrowers will be automatically approved for the Walmart MasterCard and other borrowers can receive the Walmart Rewards Card.

There is no annual fee on either Walmart credit card. All cardholders have zero liability fraud protection and are eligible for special financing offers throughout the year. The interest rates on the two cards vary. The Capital One MasterCard offers a minimum of 17.99% annual interest while the minimum on the Rewards Card is 26.99%.

Walmart MasterCard

The Walmart MasterCard can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. This definitely includes Sam’s Club as well as Sam’s Club online. The Walmart MasterCard can also be used at restaurants, grocery stores, airlines, and more. 

Walmart MasterCard rewards break down to include the following:

• A 5% rebate from Walmart.com
• A 2% rebate at Walmart stores
• A 2% rebate from restaurants and travel
• A 1% rebate on all other purchases

While the card can be used at Sam’s Club, Sam’s Club online, and through the Sam’s Club app, there are no special reward rebates for these purchases other than the 1% rebate for other purchases.

Walmart Rewards Card

The Walmart Rewards Card comes with its own terms. While it can’t be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted, the Walmart Rewards Card terms state that it can be used at the following:

• Walmart stores in the United States
• Walmart.com
• On the Walmart app
• At Walmart-branded gas stations
• At Murphy USA gas stations
• At Sam’s Club-branded gas stations
• For in-store purchases at Sam’s Club

According to the Rewards Card terms, the Walmart Rewards Card cannot be used for online purchases at samsclub.com, for purchases on the Sam’s Club app, or for purchases from in-store vendors.

Walmart Rewards cardholders enjoy the following reward program rebates:

• A 5% rebate from Walmart.com
• A 2% rebate at Walmart stores

There are no special rebates for card usage at the other Walmart brand stores.

Sam's Club

If Sam’s Club is your retailer of choice, you have several options for payments. You can use the Walmart MasterCard and the Walmart Rewards Card for your purchases. Sam's Club also accepts Sam's Club Credit, Walmart and Sam's Club gift cards, cash, or check, as well as any open-loop American Express, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover card. Sam’s Club also takes government-issued Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

For the devout Sam’s Club shopper, the Sam’s Club Membership and Sam’s Club credit card can also be popular options.

Sam's Club Membership Benefits

Sam's Club members enjoy discounts on accounting and tax services. Members receive discounted auto pricing at over 10,000 dealerships around the country. Many additional benefits, from deals on travel, health insurance, and vehicle maintenance are available with a Sam's Club membership. Sam's Club has a full list of its member benefits listed online. You can also visit any Sam's Club location and talk to customer service regarding membership benefits.

Different levels of membership are available. The basic Sam's Club Membership is available for $45 per year. The Sam's Plus Membership is available for $100 per year and offers extended shopping hours (same for business) and $10 cash back for every $500 spent, up to $500 per year.
