Experience
Becca Schimmel began interning for newspapers in college and
has worked for numerous publications since. She started working as a general
news reporter and producer in Murray, Ky at WKMS. Following that experience, she
went on to cover economics and infrastructure in Kentucky, Ohio, and West
Virginia for more than four years at WKU Public Radio. While there, she won an Impact Broadcast Award in the category of digital coverage. She has also attended the Wharton seminar for business journalists and
multiple training events at Poynter for topics including the future of work. Becca has
written extensively about trade issues, taxes, incentive programs, and how
refugee resettlement impacts local economies.
Education
Becca Schimmel studied journalism at Murray State University,
graduating with her B.S. in 2015. She then went on to study Business
Administration at Western Kentucky University where she will earn her M.B.A. in
December 2021. Schimmel has attended multiple seminars and training including the
Wharton Seminar for Business Journalists.
