Throughout Alan's more than 30 years of experience, he has worked in the capacity of a trader, analyst, portfolio manager, writer, and business founder. Alan has over nine years of trading fixed-income and mortgage or asset-backed securities with Kidder–Peabody, Credit Suisse First Boston, and West LB Asset Management. During his 15 years as an analyst and portfolio manager, he worked with Criterion Investment Management, West LB Asset Management, Nicholas Applegate, Piedra Capital, and Management CV, Inc.
For over 11 years, Alan is a contributor to Seeking Alpha, Leafly.com, and the 420 Investor newsletter. He has more than 600 articles focused on midsized companies, trading and investing strategies, and focused market-sector investing. Alan prides himself in providing unbiased information and helping investors and companies make connections that benefit both parties.
Over the last 11 years, Alan's has founded, been the principal, or owned five companies. His three most recent ventures, New Cannabis Ventures, 420 Investing, and 420 Funders, focus on the cannabis industry. His other businesses Invest by Model and AB Analytical Services, were subscription services. These services provided model portfolios for individuals and customized research for Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), respectively.
Since 2014, Alan's primary investing interests centers around the burgeoning cannabis industry. His New Cannabis Ventures, (2015), is a digital news outlet giving information on the companies and investors in the cannabis industry. The 420 Investing, (2013), is an online community speaking to the cannabis industry. Between 2014 and 2015 his 420 Funders business connected cannabis companies and capital investors.
Alan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Northwestern University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
