Of the three plans, Total Home Care is the most comprehensive. If you purchase one plan but decide a different type of coverage is more appropriate, you can switch plans within the first 30 days.

Similar to other home warranty companies, Priority Home Warranty does not provide specific pricing information online. Instead, prospective customers can request a quote online for one or all three of the company's warranty plans. This is presumably because plan pricing may vary from state to state. 

Through our research, we determined that the average plan costs $570 per year, simply choosing the midpoint between their lowest and highest rates. This puts Priority Home Warranty roughly in the middle, as there are companies that offer lower-priced policies and companies that charge more. 

This figure represents the annual cost of the policy. But it's important to keep in mind that there may be other costs involved, including service fees. Types of Damage Covered

Priority Home Warranty specifies on its website that it covers breakdowns occurring from normal wear and tear. The sample contract agreement that's available online details what constitutes normal wear and tear. 

That being said, Priority Home Warranty is also transparent about what types of damage are not covered. Specifically, that includes:

  • Damages resulting from misuse
  • Damages resulting from a natural event

It's possible, however, that damages to appliances or home systems caused by natural events such as a fire or hurricane may be covered by your homeowner's insurance policy

Plan Exclusions

Virtually every home warranty company has exclusions that spell out things that are not covered under your plan. These exclusions may be general to the policy or specific to certain home systems or appliances. 

For example, Priority Home Warranty's terms of use include these general exclusions:

That's why it's important to read the fine print on any home warranty before signing off. Otherwise, you may be expecting certain items to be covered, only to be disappointed when you need to file a claim.

Priority Home Warranty excludes coverage for professional series, luxury-grade and high-end appliances from a variety of manufacturers, including KitchenAid, Electrolux, GE Monogram and Bosch. 

Payout Caps and Limitations

It's not unusual for home warranty plans to have caps or limitations on covered items. Priority Home Warranty is no different in this respect, as the payout is capped at $1,600 per item. Priority Home Warranty offers a lower payout compared to other home warranty companies. There is no aggregate total cap, but if you need a repair that exceeds $1,600, you'll be responsible for making up the difference out-of-pocket. 

Whether that's an issue can depend on the age of your appliances and home systems, their overall condition, and how long you expect them to last. If Priority Home Warranty determines that any covered item is beyond repair, they'll offer you a replacement or work to find another solution that fits your situation.

Based on cost alone, Priority Home Warranty has a slight edge over American Home Shield. The average annual cost and the average service fee are both lower. But if you're casting the net wider and looking at where plans are offered and customer satisfaction, American Home Shield comes out ahead. 

Final Verdict

Priority Home Warranty offers several easy-to-understand coverage options and their pricing puts them in the middle of the pack compared to other home warranty providers. The ability to choose your own service contractor and expand your policy with add-ons are nice features you won't always find with other warranty options. 

The biggest sticking points may be the lack of coverage in all 50 states and the lack of online transparency around pricing. And as stated, there isn't much information to go on to get a clear picture of customer satisfaction.
