Available Courses

The Real Estate School of South Carolina offers pre-licensing real estate agent courses, pre-licensing courses for real estate brokers, exam prep, and continuing education classes. Pre-licensing courses are required before obtaining your real estate license, and continuing education classes are required in order to renew your license and keep it in good standing.

The school also offers courses on appraisal, home inspection, and property management. These classes can help you better understand certain industry niches, such as managing properties for investors, and can be taken in addition to real estate licensing classes.

In South Carolina, there are a total of 90 educational hours required to get your real estate salesperson’s license. You can take all 90 hours and then send your application to the Real Estate Commission to take the exam, or you can take 60 hours, send in your application, take the exam, and then complete the remaining 30 hours.

Salesperson Pre-Licensing

Salesperson pre-licensing courses are offered in a few different formats from the Real Estate School of South Carolina. You can take the required 90 educational hours completely online by purchasing the 30 hours of real estate principles separately for $219 and the additional 60 hours of real estate principles for $435.

Alternatively, you can purchase one of two packages, both of which include the 90 course hours. The Career Start Package is $649 and covers South Carolina contracts, disclosures, agency, and real estate laws. The Set-for-Success Package includes everything from the Career Start Package plus an exam prep course with real estate vocabulary flashcards, pre-assessments, and practice tests and it costs $709.

If you prefer to take pre-licensing classes live, you can take them either live-online or in a classroom. The courses are sold separately, but you will need to take both to get your salesperson license. Unit 1 is 60 hours and costs $399 for in-person learning and $375 for live-streaming. Unit 2 is 30 hours and costs $299 for in-person learning and $219 for live-streaming.  Once you sign up for the live-stream class, your materials will be mailed to you and you will receive an email link to join the class. You need to be online and attend class at the same time as the instructor to get credit for the class.

Exam Prep

The Real Estate School of South Carolina offers exam prep through its online Set-for-Success pre-licensing Package and separately through CompuCram, which are also online classes. The South Carolina portion of the exam prep class is $49. It’s designed to prepare students for the real estate salesperson exam. The other exam prep class includes both the state portion and the national portion and costs $89.

Exam prep material includes flashcards with real estate vocabulary words, dynamic practice questions, unlimited practice exams, and up-to-date state laws and disclosures. There is also a readiness indicator to show how well-prepared you are for the exam. Exam prep can be taken on tablets and smartphones.

Individual classes range from $40 to $65 and cover topics such as short sales, foreclosures, residential financing, and basic construction. Ten-hour continuing education packages are also available for $99 and include ethics, finance, and broker-in-charge topics.

South Carolina real estate licenses need to be renewed every two years. Prior to renewal, continuing education courses need to be completed.

Other Courses

Course Format

Course formats include self-paced online, live-stream, and in-classroom options. All pre-licensing courses meet the educational requirements of the South Carolina Real Estate Commission. Pre-licensing courses are offered in two separate classes: one for 60 hours and one for 30 hours because a total of 90 hours is required. South Carolina license and property law, agency relationships, real property, fair housing, real estate investments, property taxes, and landlord-tenant relationships are all topics that are covered in the pre-licensing salesperson classes.

Instructors

The instructors at the Real Estate School of South Carolina are all real estate industry experts and can be contacted via phone or email; their information is listed on the website. The site doesn’t have any bios for their instructors, so you can’t read about their careers or educational highlights. However, the website does state that the courses are written and designed by real estate instructors and industry experts.

Reputation

The Real Estate School of South Carolina is a reputable school and is a popular choice among South Carolina residents who want to pursue careers in real estate. Former students mention on the school’s website that they like the various course formats and different topics to choose from. However, the Real Estate School of South Carolina isn’t accredited by IDECC or ARELLO. This means the school didn’t meet either of the institutions’ strict accreditation criteria.

Competition: Real Estate School of South Carolina vs. Real Estate Express

Real Estate Express is an IDECC- and ARELLO-accredited online real estate school, meaning that the school has met the high standards for online education that both institutions have. It teaches online real estate classes in two formats for different learning styles. There are live-stream and self-paced courses. It is part of a large real estate education group of companies called McKissock and has positive former student reviews and testimonials. It offers pre-licensing courses in 34 states and continuing education classes through its partners in all 50 states.

We compared Real Estate Express with the Real Estate School of South Carolina because both schools offer pre-licensing, exam prep, and continuing education classes online in South Carolina. However, Real Estate Express has some added benefits. It is accredited, offers classes in numerous states, is less expensive, and has abundant student and career resources, which is why we recommend choosing Real Estate Express.

Final Verdict

The Real Estate School of South Carolina is a viable option if you’re interested in attending real estate courses with the intention of working somewhere in South Carolina. Some of its positive attributes include its multiple continuing education class topics, various course formats, and instructor support included with each class.

However, it isn’t IDECC- or ARELLO-certified, is higher priced than most other schools, and only offers courses in one state. It also lacks student resources, career guidance, and a mobile app. This may influence your decision to choose another school that is certified and offers courses in multiple states for a more affordable price.

Our Methodology: How We Review Real Estate Schools

We researched and analyzed numerous facets of each real estate school with a quantitative approach in mind. Some of the elements considered include costs of the classes, course formats, accreditation, and former student reviews. We also look at the overall reputation of the provider, geographic areas where the courses are available, and instructor qualifications. Additionally, we assess how easy it is to navigate the website and whether it includes additional student resources such as blogs, webinars, and career tips.
