Rob Urban has lived and worked in Charlotte, N.C., Prague, Czech Republic, Moscow, Russia and New York, and now lives in Jersey City.
He started his career in journalism at the Charlotte Observer, where he got his start as a cop and courts reporter and participated in coverage of televangelists Jim and Tammy Bakker and chased the occasional hurricane. He then moved to Eastern Europe soon after the Berlin Wall came down and established and managed coverage across Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union at Bloomberg News, hiring and overseeing staff in more than 10 countries before moving to New York from Moscow in 2001. There he oversaw Wall Street coverage and investing, real estate and market structure globally, including cryptocurrencies. Rob has two children: a daughter in college who is an artist and a musician and a son who is an entertainment journalist.
